This month has seen three new products being created. Two with success - one less so !
Each was created following requests from customers and I always like to try making something new.
Firstly there is the Peach Chutney. This was requested by well travelled people who have lived in peach rich countries. I thought it well worth investigating so here is my first batch. Ready for purchase having matured for a wee while. It can be found in the garden stall and will be at the next Farmer’s Market in Lochgilphead.
Next was the Strawberry and Apple Jam. This was a delight to make and I’m sure will go down a treat. It has the Strawberry flavour but the apple gives it more set than pure Strawberry Jam. I’ve always avoided additives and setting agents, which is why my homemade jams can be softer than the supermarket varieties. Minimal ingredients has always been my philosophy. This jam looks lovely too as you can see the blend of colours in it between the Strawberry and Apple.
But then I must tell you about the third new product this month :(
The South Indian Lime Pickle. I was asked to make a milder version of my very popular South Indian Lemon and Lime pickle. I thought just making it with Limes rather than lemons and limes together would help differentiate between the two. I used just a quarter of the usual amount of chilli in it. I was worried it might be too mild. I’ve only made a small batch to see how it goes down. Sadly my tasters were not impressed - they were running for water:) Still far too hot, was the verdict so I will have to do further work on that one. I guess it will have to be incredibly tame, but I will keep trying.
