We are just a week away from the first Farmers' Market of the year. The Co-op carpark in Lochgilphead is the place to be, between 10am and 1pm, on the second Saturday of every month (Except January). The stalls vary month on month but there are some regulars including ourselves. There are usually flowers, meat, pies, soaps, cards and calendars. Other stalls come and go from time to time. You have to come along and find out what is available on the day.
During the wee break I have been experimenting making a few new products. You wont currently find them on my website as the batches are so small, but I will take them to the market. Some new products are Raspberry Jelly, Gooseberry Jelly and Shredless Marmalades. Each of these are a result of customer feedback. I have also reinstated Cranberry Chilli Relish after requests for it. Another product that I had stopped making was Cherry and Redcurrant Jam, but I have been persuaded to make some more and hope to have it in time for the market next week. I am always open to suggestions and love trying new recipes.
A lot of dull stuff also happens in January such as building new spreadsheets for the year and doing a full stock take. I was lucky this year to persuade Lesley to help me count all the jars so that I start the year with a accurate tally. I am very pleased to have had record sales for a January. That is primarily wholesale orders to the shops and cafes. The garden stall has been fairly quiet due to the inclement weather. It was somewhat funny recently when we had a 9 hour power cut due to a storm, but the little garden stall still had lights because it has its own solar panel :)
